Dengan rahang penjepit mereka yang kuat, mereka memotong bagian-bagian dedaunan dan kemudian membawanya kembali ke sarang mereka di bawah tanah, dimana mereka memberi makan dengan daun itu secara hati-hati pada kebun jamur yang mereka rawat.

Jamur-jamur itu mensekresikan enzim pada daun yang akhirnya memecahkan daun menjadi bermacam-macam molekul, dari reaksi ini menyisakan gula yang digunakan oleh semut sebagai makanan.

Sekali jamur memecahkan daun menjadi molekul sebanyak yang mereka bisa, semut-semut mengambil potongan-potongan daun dari kebun jamur, membawanya ke permukaan dan membuangnya dalam tumpukan-tumpukan di sekitar sarang. Bakteri melanjutkan memecah (menghancurkan) sisa-sisa serpihan daun, sehingga limbahnya tidak memenuhi koloni semut.

Secara pasti, molekul mana yang dipecah oleh jamur dan bakteri masih dalam tahap investigasi.

Hanya dua dari spesies serangga yang lain yang telah menyusun suatu hubungan simbiosis yang dekat dengan jamur. Tanpa jamur, koloni semut mati. Tanpa semut, jamur tidak bisa bertahan hidup. Bakteri tergantung pada keduanya dalam hal makanan.

Pada akhir 50 juta tahun, tiga kelompok organisme telah mengoptimalkan hubungan mereka untuk menghasilkan jumlah maksimum energi yang dihasilkan dari daun. Bagaimana komunitas itu melakukan hal ini adalah masih mejadi sebuah misteri--salah seorang ilmuwan berharap untuk membongkar misteri ini menggunakan hibah dari Roche untuk mengurutkan genome dari 17 organisme itu, termasuk tiga spesies semut pemotong daun yang berbeda.

Para ilmuwan memperkirakan bahwa ada sekitar 1.5 milyar pasangan dasar dari 17 organisme berbeda itu. Genome manusia sendiri mengandug kira-kira tiga milyar pasangan dasar.

Terkunci di dalam komunitas genome bisa menjadi petunjuk yang akhirnya dapat menuntun para ilmuwan untuk menemukan enzim baru atau teknik-teknik yang bisa menjadikan manusia mampu untuk membuat biofuel secara lebih efisien.

"Sebuah sistem pendekatan adalah penting untuk menjawab dengan jelas tentang biofuel, karena pemecahan lignoselulosa dengan enzim masih sangat mahal dan tidak praktis," kata Lars Angenent, seorang ilmuwan yang mempelajari bagaimana bermacam-macam organisme memecah selulosa untuk menghasilkan biofuel di Cornell University.

"Saya kira pekerjaan di Wisconsin harus dihargai, karena tidak hanya mengurutkan indiviu bakteri atau serangga, tapi agak mengarah ke seluruh sistem biologi," Kata Angenent.

Setiap episode dari seri ini mereplika dua binatang buas sebagai binatang biokimia dalam suatu 'Laboratorium Gigitan', dengan bantuan dari para pakar ilmuan internasional. Mereka merancang, membangun dan menguji replika animatronik dari binatang yang bisa - tapi biasanya tidak - menyerang melawan satu sama lain di alam liar.

Team ini merekonstruksi serangan dengan membuat replika binatang yang terbuat dari metal ( Besi ) dan menciptakan ulang binatang itu lapis demi lapis -rangka, dan kulit - dalam sebuah lingkungan virtual di komputer.

Dalam arena netral ini, tidak ada binatang yang memiliki kesempatan untuk curang dan hasilnya ditentukan secara ilmiah: keahlian bertarung, senjata dan kelemahan dipertimbangkan terhadap kekuatan fisik, ukuran tubuh, dan serangan. Hasil dari pertarungan mengagumkan antara binatang buas cyber ini akan menentukan binatang mana yang paling mungkin akan menjadi pemenang dimana mereka pernah bertikai satu sama lain di alam liar.

Seri ini dibuka dengan sebuah pertarungan virtual antara singa dengan harimau, yang bisa dikatakan memberikan bukti yang mirip. Kemudian dalam seri itu, buaya air asin saling menggigit dengan hiu putih besar dan gajah diadu dengan badak. Pada episode berikutnya, serigala diadu dengan puma, harimau siberia diadu dengan beruang grizzly, beruang kutub melawan anjing laut, alligator bertarung dengan beruang hitam dan gorila bertarung dengan macan tutul.

Masuk Ke Komputer Yang Lupa Passwordnya

Ini merupakan hal yang paling menjengkelkan bagi kita, mungkin...ketika kita lupa password apa yang kita gunakan untuk login ke Komputer kesayangan kita. Atau misalnya kita akan menggunakan komputer oranglain yang kita belum tahu passwordnya.

Caranya mudah saja,,,apabila sudah masuk ke welcome screen, atau Log On dialog,,,
klik ctrl+alt+del 2 kali,,lalu pada kolom username ketikkan Administrator, dan klik enter...jreng2 kita bisa masuk ke komputer yang di password tanpa harus mengetahui passwordnya,,,.

Mematikan Komputer Otomatis Bagian II

Melanjutkan artikel yang kemarin, apabila kita ingin mematikan komputer kita secara otomatis namun lebih dari satu waktu, misalnya kita ingin agar komputer kita mati pada pukul 06.00 sore dan pada pukul 09.00 malam.

Prinsipnya mudah saja. Ikuti langkah-langkah berikut ini:
-Buka Control Panel
-Pilih Scheduled Tasks
-Klik browse, cari file mati.bat
-klik dua kali pada file mati.bat sehingga muncul tampilan seperti ini:



-Klik Tab Schedule sehingga muncul tampilan seperti ini:



-Beri tanda (v) pada kotak show multiple schedule, kemudian klik new.
-Tentukan waktu baru, yaitu 06,oo pm atau 18.00 dan klik apply lalu klik ok.
-Nah sekarang kompi anda akan mati secara otomatis setiap hari pada pukul 06.00 pm dan 09.00 pm.

Membuat Komputer Shutdown Otomatis Tanpa Software

Hal ini mungkin sudah menjadi sesuatu yang mengganjal bagi sebagian orang yang bisa dikategorikan masih awam dalam menggunakan komputer,,apalagi seperti saya yang bukan seorang lulusan smk jurusan ilmu komputer maupun mahasiswa teknik IT. Tapi setelah saya utak-atik sendiri plus googling akhirnya dapat juga cara menjadikan komputer kita mati otomatis dan terjadwal pula.

Caranya cukup simpel, anda tidak perlu menggunakan software, visual basic maupun keterampilan yang berkaitan dengan programmer,,ukh pusing mikirnya, kita hanya menggunkan fasilitas yang udah disediakan satu paket dengan windows aja. Langsung aja ya?
Untuk membuat kompi kita mati dalam 30 detik, langkah yang harus dilakukan adalah:
1. Buka Notepad dan ketikkan shutdown -s
2. Lalu simpan dengan ekstensi .bat,, misalnya mati.bat tampak seperti ini

3. Simpan di tempat yang aman misalnya my document.
4. Buatlah sortcut dari file mati.bat tadi.
5. Untuk mematikan kompi tinggal klik aja dua kali, nanti akan muncul kotak dialog spt ini

Itu baru sortcut untuk matiin kompi,, sekarang kita masuk ke topik utama mematikan komputer secara otomatis dan terjadwal. Prinsipnya mudah saja, tinggal kita edit file mati.bat tadi. Caranya begini:
-klik kanan pada file mati.bat tadi lalu klik open sehingga muncul editan dalam bentuk notepad spt ini:


Lalu ketikkan setelah shutdown -s ketikkan -f, misalnya ingin mematikan kompi dalam 3 detik ketikkan -t 3 setelah shutdown -s tadi, dan jika ingin menambahkan komentar pada dialog shutdown, ketikkan setelah shutdown -s -f -t 3, -c "komentar anda". Lalu simpan di my document. Contohnya seperti ini


Langkah berikutnya, adalah menjalankan file mati.bat tadi secara otomatis, sehingga kita tidak perlu melakukan klik dua kali pada sortcut. Caranya begini:
Buka Control Panel, pilih scheduled tasks, pilih add scheduled tasks, klik next, klik browse, cari file mati.bat tadi, lalu klik open. Apabila muncul kotak dialog seperti ini:



Apabila kita ingin mensetting kompi agar mati secara terjadwal setiap hari, maka check pada pilihan daily. Lalu klik next, tentukan jam berapa kompi akan mati pada start time. Misalnya kompi mati ketika jam 9.00 malam, check every day, pada pilihan perform this task. Klik next lagi. Perlu diperhatikan bahwa settingan ini hanya bisa berjalan pada kompi yang berpassword, jadi setting password pada kompi anda.


Username akan muncul secara otomatis, jadi jangan diubah, masukkan password kompi dua kali, jangan sampe salah ya??? Lalu klik next lagi, setelah muncul dialog seperti ini



Check pada kolom open advanced properties for this task when I click finish. Lalu klik finish. Maka akan muncul tampilan seperti ini



Lalu klik Ok, selesai deh...nah tunggu aja, tiap jam 09.00 malam kompimu akan mati secara otomatis.

Hiu Putih Berburu Seperti Pembunuh Berantai

Hiu mungkin hanya berburu untuk mendapatkan makan, namun hiu memperlihatkan strategi berburunya mirip dengan orang yang melakukan pembunuhan berantai. Mereka bersembunyi dan mengintai lalu mengejar mangsanya.

Hiu dan manusia pembunuh berantai dua-duanya bisa dilacak melalui profil geografis, berdasarkan sebuah studi baru yang melaksanakan teknik investigasi ini terhadap pola berburu dari ikan hiu putih besar, yang diketahui sebagai ikan predator terbesar di dunia.

Studi itu dipublikasikan dalam Jurnal Zoologi terbaru, menandakan kali pertama pelaporan geografis telah diterapkan pada sebuah spesies laut.

"Sebagai pemangsa, mereka harus cukup dekat untuk mengawasi mangsa dan memperkirakan pergerakan mereka, tapi mereka juga harus cukup jauh sehingga mereka sendiri menjadi tidak mudah diketahui." tandas Neil Hammarschalg yang diwawancarai Discovery News.

"Mereka harus menggunakan jalur pergerakan yang mereka kenal betul," tambah Hammerschlag, seorang peneliti di University of Miami fakultas Rosentiel Kelautan dan Ilmu Atmospheric. "Bagi manusia pembunuh, hal ini akan seperti kereta bawah tanah, bus, dan jalan bebas hambatan. Bagi Hiu Putih hal ini termasuk kanal-kanal, tepi karang, dan bentuk topografi yang lain."

Selama studi ini, Hammerschlag bekerja dengan Ahli Hiu Aidan Martin dan Mantan Polisi Kanada Kim Rossomo, yang mengembangkan teknik pembuatan profil geografis dan sekarang berada di Texas State University.

Para peneliti mengamati dan mencatat 340 serangan hiu putih besar di Cape fur seals dalam air dari Seal Island di False Bay Afrika Selatan . Mereka meletakkan situs penyerangan ini, menggunakan radar chart untuk memeriksa persebaran penemuan dan mencatat di mana hiu mulai dan mengakhiri serangan mereka.

Semua hal lain yang sama, frekuensi serangan harus langsung terkait dengan kepadatan mangsa, dengan hiu mengintai di area mana anjing-anjinglaut paling sering berkumpul. Mengherankan, hal ini tidak terjadi.

Para peneliti juga menemukan bahwa hiu putih besar dewasa lebih fokus dengan ujung jangkar yang secara berulang-ulang mereka keluarkan sebagai serangan mereka. Hiu yang lebih kecil dan lebih muda kurang fokus dalam hal ini. Hal ini karena hiu dewasa telah berpengalaman dan telah berulangkali melakukan penyerangan sehingga mereka lebih mengetahui posisi dan saat yang tepat untuk memulai penyerangan terhadap mangsa-mangsanya.

"Seekor anjing laut bisa merobek keluar mata ikan hiu dan mereka memiliki banyak bakteri di mulut mereka yang bisa menyebabkan infeksi ketika mereka menggigit," Kata Hammerschalg. "Banyak ikan hiu yang mengalami luka parah yang disebabkan oleh gigitan anjing laut."

Namun demikian, itu adalah dunia hiu pemangsa anjing laut , dan pemangsa teratas seperti hiu memainkan peran penting dalam struktur masyarakat dan menjaga kestabilan ekosistem. Temuan baru membantu untuk memecahkan misteri besar tentang perilaku berburu hiu putih dapat membantu untuk mengidentifikasi daerah-daerah untuk perlindungan - baik untuk manusia maupun ikan hiu.
